The Song of Hiawatha by Longfellow

This is an epic poem by longfellow called the song of hiawatha. It came out in 18 55, the same year as leaves of grass. Instead of galloping horses, we get some closer to an indian or native american chant. And it starts like this: The old woman, pointing with her finger westward. O'er the r pointing westward to the purple clouds of sunset.
