Is Vengeance the Only Way to End Grief?
In matobu, the cop believe that the only way to end grief is to save life. If some one is murdered, a year of mourning ends with a ritual we call the drowning man trial. The crew believe that if the family lets the killer drown, they'll have justice, but spend the rest of their life in mourning. But if they save them, if they admit that life isn't always just, that very act can take away their sorrow. As the cew put it, vengeance is a lazy form of grief. And classic bargaining is basically we're trying to impact the outcome, get our relationship back, our health back by upping our game.
