The History of Nails
The concept of a nail salon as a gathering place outside the home has been around since the late 1800s. There's evidence of like headed nails on ancient Egyptian mummies in lands where the henna plant grows native. And also even part of the traditional Korean beauty practice of staining the nails with balsam flowers. Suzanne E. Shapiro authored the 2014 book Nails the Story of the Modern Manicure. She began her research by wandering the streets of New York City with a tape recorder asking people how they felt about their nails.
