On average, every forty seconds somebody commits suicide on the planet. The buddha grew up in a very wealthy environment and his parents protected him from all adversity. He was shocked when he saw an old person for the first time at 20 or 21 years of age. His father wanted him to not experience unhappiness so they didn't show him anything that give wh but bad ideas into his head.
