Britain has got a large weight of not very great history with Africa. Meanwhile, Russia and China are trying to boost their legitimacy in the region by investing in Africa. Why are we not using our limited resources to build bridges instead of just treating Africa as a dumping ground for our deportees? I think there is an issue when we contrast, say, with Russia and China,. If you look across Western countries that have large aid programs... We're still a very generous aid donor. But of course, we do things like saying, well, we're going to check on whether this aid is spent appropriately. Whereas Russia and China will do the opposite. So it shows the intellectual limitations of modern conservatism
