Shapley vs Curtis - The Spiral Nebulas
Heber curtis argued that the milky way is ten times smaller than what shapley was proposing. But he did devote attention to the spiral nebulas, arguing that they were island uni verses. He paid special attention to the many nova being sighted within some spirals. All in all, the two men were simply talking at cross purposes. At the time of the debate, there was no overwhelming evidence to settle the inconsistencies either way.
