The Different Forms of Schizophrenia

Anthropologist and ethnographer Tanya Lerman's work is focused on cross cultural studies of schizophrenia. She finds that different societies treat people who are exhibiting symptoms of schizophrenia very differently. They're seen as engaging in some type of play, right? And not pathologized. The valences of schizophrenic ideation in these other contexts are not as- well, they're not what she finds in the North American social democratic one.
