Is the Flood Really Happening?
There are numerous stories around the world of major floods that take place. But they always seem to come from communities that live near bodies of water. And so when they think, what's the worst thing that could happen if the world was going to end? They think of water sort of flooding everywhere. For biblical authors and for Gilgamesh and Atrahasis, it's a return to this sort of primordial state. Before God takes control in the case of the Hebrew Bible,. or before God's like Marduk managed to sort of rest the world into some sort of order.
