The Role of Consent in the Geneva Convention
Dinchtine defies reprisals as a classic tool to induce a law-breaking state to abide by the law in the future. The Geneva Convention said, say that prisoners of war should be released at the end of active hostilities without any condition. Still, these are over, you must release prisoners of war. In point of fact, this is always done on a reciprocal basis. No country releases its prisoner's war but it holds unless the other side does it.
