How Birds Adapt to Highly Variable Environments

How do these birds adapt to all these different environments and have a highly variable microbiome, depending on what environment they're in? How are they able to fly a couple hundred miles over a very, very short period of time and not dive exhaustion? So it's a wide open field with far more questions than answers. And we are working to build the foundation to be able to answer these questions.
