The Libertine Schemes of Terese
Terese asks the Count to go easier on his wife, and he delivers his view of the situation. The relationships of a wife to her husband and that of the chicken to myself are of identical consequence. It's hard to read this book as we search in vain for the author to come to grips with this truth. You can take this view that the count takes, but you can't justify it by any kind of logic or reason. He sounds like some justification of what we would call 'unjustifiable', which is not true at all.
