Are Solid Engineering Principles a Good Idea?

Dan: I've long had this feeling that I'm not as real a programmer as most people because I spend most of my time in the weeds down in the lower levels of the technology stack. But it has definitely given me about a 15 year free pass out of like good solid engineering principles, like high level engineering principles. The worst idea for me, personally is shoe, hurry - which comes from an entomology term.
