The Root of the Norse Word Skills
The same root word, which we've been examining, also gave us the norse word skill. The latin form of that word gave english the words scalpel and sculpture. That leaves the third endo european word, which meant to cut or divide,. Also began with that original s k sound in words like sharp, shear, shred and shard. So all those senses of the word share came from an original sense of cutting or dividing something.
