Laura recorded herself answering the questions for me and explaining what she did. The area calculations are based on the equal area, conic projection that attempts to minimize the area distortion proportionately of a global map projection based on the Australia geoid. Since this particular projection minimizes the distortion of area computations from spherical geometry to flat map, it is used as fit for purpose area calculation Based on the resolution of the coastline data in the 100k Geoscience Australia.
