Edward Bernays was deeply concerned about the health impact smoking would have on his wife Doris. She was a pack a day smoker, and Eddie needled her about her habit until she quit. Their oldest daughter Doris later recalled to author Larry Ty, he used to hide my mother's cigarettes and make us hide the cigarettes. He didn't think they were good for mother. His daughter Anne added, he'd pull them all out and just snap them like bones. Just snap them in half and throw them in the toilet. He hated her smoking. So, that's part one of our story.
