How Does the Black Hole Have a Source of Energy?

Life, as we know it, requires some form of energy. A black hole is a very powerful source of energy. The tidal forces at play that's going to be trying to tear apart this panet might actually be critical for survival. But i don't have any great ideas for hot that would work.
