RTX and Pratt and Whitney's Engine Inspections
About 200 of them will be taking place over the coming weeks and then another thousand over the coming year. They have discovered a number of powdered metal contaminants which could be an issue on some of the discs for some of the geared turbofan engines. This is going to cost RTX at least $500 million this year. All together, there are approximately 3000 geared turbofen engines that are in service around the world.
