How Entidal CO2 Can Guide Pre-Hospital Diagnosis of DKA

The venous and arterial pH's are actually really similar. So the good news is for our patients that we don't need to be taking ABGs to establish whether or not the patient is in DKA. A venous blood gas is absolutely appropriate. Simon, I guess one option that we have got available to us pre-hospital as well as in-hospital is Entidal CO2. There were a few questions about that on Twitter. Can we use Entidal CO 2 to guide our diagnosis at all? Well I must say when I read those I thought that was pretty controversial but that probably shows my limited knowledge on the area so I went away and had a little dig around.
