Mark and the Gospels of Mark

Mark was used as a source for Matthew and Luke, which means Mark was in wide circulation. The church fathers were concerned to have gospels that recounted what Jesus really said and did. And so they didn't approach it the way modern historians do. But people in the ancient world were concerned about what happened when you have a historical text.
