By the later 19 eighties, western europe has entered a new era of relative political stability associated with miterins and helmo cole as west german chancellor. But there is a sense of a disgruntement with the democratic regime and the inequalities that it has produced. There are new forms of political idiology developing. One thinks of what we now call neo liberalism, of a new sort of market oriented liberalism. And i suppose britain and thatcherism is one of the examples of how democracy can be changed at the end of the twentieth century from within.
