The Challenges for American Prisoners of War in North Viet Nam

The camps that were established in north viet nam to hold the prisoners of war were nearly impossible to escape from. The other deterrent was the fact that most pierre ws in North Vietnam were held in solitary confinement. There were no, at least from my understanding, there were no american or friendly intelligence forces that were running underground forces which could have assisted them should they be able to escape. They faced a lot of challenges in that regard to even attempt to escape.
