What Is God?
Augustine was fascinated by the idea that God could be a real thing but have no material substance. The Neoplatonists taught him to pursue contemplation which is both philosophical and has a kind of religious tinge, he says. In the end Augustine comes to see that human minds could also be real but without material substance - this might be an analogy for how he understands God.
