Did the Sewers Canal Reopen in 1975?
After the 1973 Yom Kippur War, an international agreement was made to reopen the sewers canal. The United States led the effort to sweep the canal for mines and remove wreckage from it. In 2014-2015, the Egyptian government further expanded the canal. They dug a second channel along some of its length, which almost doubled the daily capacity of the canal from 49 to 97 ships per day.
