New York's First Jewish Synagogue

The new emanuel will become one of the avenue's most unique buildings. It was designed in a moorish revival style by leopold idlet, who had worked on the christi street synagogue and was now one of america's most in demand architects. When it opened, it was the largest synagogue in the united states. In yellow brownstone with black and red roofed tiling, its grand narrow turrets commanding attention over the avenue. Most importantly, it announced that new york's jewish population would not be ignored.
