The Public Private Nature of the Smithsonian Institutions

The Guggenheim in New York for instance was the site of a protest very early on after the escalation in 2022. I wonder whether there isn't kind of a precedent being set by the Smithsonian and a few institutions like it at the time of the Second World War. There's a very peculiar thing in the US. Of course in Europe museums have presided over revolutions made maybe a little bit earlier. But then we also had the kind of civilizing mission of the museum much more pronounced before before the first and second world war.
