The Story With Tobacco
The Portuguese were the first Europeans to begin cultivating tobacco for export to Europe. In 1564, a royal navy captain brought the leaf to England and despite early opposition from people who considered it "filthy foul" The story with tobacco is similar to the story with coffee: A bunch of like weirdo Christians are like, this is a heathen drug, we shouldn't do it. And then some king will like pick up a cigarette or drink some coffee and be like, Oh, yeah, this shit's actually pretty dope. You know what, I think we're fine with tobacco.
