Is It a Good Idea to Insist on Technically Correct Modes of Speech?

Is it a good idea when dealing with such people always to insist on technically correct modes of speech? It seems to me that the example is no. What I said was true in some technical sense, but it led her farther from the truth. If she had wandered off, rather than giving that amusing reply, I'd not have known that I had misled her and she would have been farther from God. Luckily, I could fix it, although I don't remember what I said.
