How to Validate State Measures

The correlation between an average state and a personality trait self report is somehow strange maybe not even warranted. If it's too high we're measuring a wrong thing at the personality state level. We can't extract the person's self views when they're reporting on the personality state so they're drawing on their trait like conceptualization of themselves to varying extents. That makes a question by the way how do you validate the state measures I mean we have some ideas how to validate trait measures.
