The Tradition of Individualism Permeates the Social Sciences

Homo economic permeates the social sciences. For it's called methodological individualism. This entire tradition swept over western culture in the middle of the twentieth century. Before that, you had a tradition of holism. Basically, people like derkheim talked about society as an organism in its own right. And individuals played their appointed roles within those societies but the society was the centre of analysis.
