Obsidian DM - How Do You Know if You Need to Take Notes?

I have at least one note for every session and then more on quests or quest givers or NPCs, characters in the game that aren't the players or places. When I'm a DM, I have very few notes, but that's because I record the videos. And so I know that I only need to take notes on things that are going to happen in that session and everything else I can really go back to later after the game. As a player, I take notes on anything that's interesting. Well, actually only the things that my character knows. So that's another thing. My notes aren't complete in that sense because things happen to other characters that my character didn't know
