The History of Black Friday
Black Friday started in the 1920s when department stores created grand parades to signal Americans it's time to start spending cash. It was coined by the Philadelphia Police Department because the day brought tons of traffic and chaos. In the 1980s, Black Friday finally went nationwide thanks to America's obsession with cabbage patch kids. By 2002, nearly three quarters of all shoppers were in stores over Black Friday weekend.
