Captain ernest layman was on board the hindenburg, even though he was in charge of the flight. He had a two year old son who had fallen ill and died just a few weeks earlier. His concern was increased by the fact that the young next generation lacked the decades of practical experience that the older people had in fixing things. The design flaw in the ship itself meant they didn't have long to fix the problem.
