Inflation in 20 21 is still the leading idea that we have about the early universe, and most particularly about the origin of structure. There's a tiny bit of evidence for inflation that has subsequently come up. We observe perturbations that are almost scale free, but not quite,. Their tilted a little bit, exactly as inflation would naturally predict. That's weak evidence, but it's still evidence. I think that inflation has real conceptual issues that it has to deal with.
