The History of Cockaneal
The cocaneal is a scale insect that's native to central and south america. A pound of dye contains about 70 thousand of these insects. The various species of insect used for this dye are all in the genus dactalopius, although cortess ders called them cocanelia cultivata. Unless you are alurgic to them, there is no health risk in having them in your food.
