Starting in the eighties, they started building tracks to a uniform 400 meters. You can't really divide a mile by 400 meters cleanly. So you've got four times around the track. Is about as close as you can come to a mile. I think it's nine meters shy of a mile. Like that finish line's not movable. Huh? Come on. Let's let's get it together everybody.
