What It's Like to Be a Badger?
I don't see that in principle it is any less possible to know something about what it's like to be a badger. Of course, there are obstacles in the way of understanding what aBadger's life is like. Badgers don't speak English and can't tell me what they're thinking and feeling. But on the other hand, humans are much better at lying in a sophisticated way. We are superb disemblers, not only to one another, but also to ourselves. And I think that somebody who's a more intuitive person than I am, probably female, probably dyslexic, will be able to make a much better job of the experiment with a child.
