I think this was actually a big aha moment for me. It is a topic that i care about, to equalize pay between genders. I want to be clear that there is some gender discrimination. But if we really want to focus on solving the problem, these initiatives should move the needle more than perhaps other initiatives which may sound better but are less impactful. In rowanda, they gave six months leave to both mothers and fathers. And so now in iceland, it's culturally and socially expected that a manho you're going to hire will take time off from work when their kid is born.
We believe that the desire to give is universal, but is just as much a skill as anything else in life. In this episode, Cal and Steph discuss the how you can make a difference during your limited time on this earth, with the limited resources you have -- especially during times like these.
They dive into...
- Creative ways that people have supported Ukraine
- Striking a balance between hedonism and altruism
- Making difficult problems tractable
- A breakdown of the gender pay gap
- Impact starting with small actions
- WTF is effective altruism?
- Whether charities should be structured differently
