We're Going to Meet the King
The text doesn't say that Jesus goes back to heaven, but how do we make sense of the righteous being caught up with him in the air? Many saints throughout Christian history and the theological tradition have interpreted this is analogous to the ancient custom of citizens ushering in an important visitor. We also see this in Acts chapter 28 when the brethren at Rome went out of the city to meet Paul as he was approaching the city. And so it's a victory parade, right? We're going to meet the king.
