The Repression of Eastern Europe in the 1980s
Hungary was a test country in the Soviet bloc, providing some individual freedoms and also some cultural freedom. During the 80s, practically in all countries, there were some kind of softening of the regime. This was always related to how much these local Communist parties expected some kind of revolt. The centrally planned economy does not really work.
