In October of 1882, Catherine Higgins takes out a life insurance policy on her daughter Mary Margaret. Less than two months later, before the end of the year, Mary develops a sudden and intense illness that she never recovers. She dies within a week of developing these symptoms and a different doctor certified her cause of death as bronchitis. So this is far less than what she had gotten with John, but still, you know, we're talking about a chunk of money for a step daughter who she only had for less than two months, essentially.
