The biological basis of addiction is that with certain substances our body's ability to metabolize those substances normally is damaged or has changed. In social media we're all being trained that if you do a certain thing you will get a certain desired result. But I wouldn't call that an addiction. I would say that's Pavlovian learning the same way that you learn to keep your hand away from the hot stove or you learn every time there's a cookie in your mouth for five seconds you're the happiest person on the planet. So I don't believe in process addictions like shopping addiction  I think that's just a silly idea.
