i think it's fair to say that for just about despite the profile and the by line, the vast majority of people working at newspapers a count on that monthly incomet. Writer number one gets suspended after he retweets something offensive. In 20 18, felicia sanmez alleged in a statement that she had been ally assaulted by a los angeles times journalist. The following july, san mez sued the paper and its leadership for discrimination. That lawsuit wound up getting dismissed, but i went back and read her suit over the week end, and it is really interesting reading.
