The VIX complex is like the easiest way to trade ball if you just have a brokerage account, right? You can go buy a VIX future that embeds this complicated volatility risk, but all you had to do was buy a future. Or if that's too hard, you can buy an ETF that like buys a rolling portfolio futures without knowing anything about it. The favorite use of the VIX complex was for everybody first to try to short it.
