A lot of times it comes down to not knowing the answers. I remember being so afraid that they would ask me a question that I did not have the answer to because here's the thing. What if they ask me a questions. I don't know the answer to. But what I've learned over the years is that there are two ways to think about teaching, one is the person in charge and the other is the coach. A coaching mindset around teaching is so much more fun and joyful for everyone. It means that you don't have to know all the answers, because the coach is there to help you learn how to get answers, not to answer them for you.
Liz Norell shares about finding joy and curiosity in the questions on episode 453 of the Teaching in Higher Ed podcast.
