I think that your point about laws establishing one day a week as a day of rest is an interesting one, but I think again you're sort of doing this rhetorical trick. But if you actually look at American practice, it runs against the idea of maximal autonomy in this case. That strikes me as just a very strange reading of the breadth of a liberal tradition because when I look at a lot of European countries, they have laws mandating that many shops be closed on Sundays.
