In Alcoholics Anonymous, Weight Watchers, those things work because you're embedded with a community of people who are supportive. Within a social network, emotions spread. And so if I'm feeling grateful today, that's going to make me want to invest in other people and then you're going to feel grateful to me. So it can be the people who are doing the same thing with you, but it doesn't have to be.
