John Kirby: This is not a new thing for Mr. Putin to do, to long fully detain Americans and then try to exact some kind of price for it. We've often heard that they understand American politics just as well as we do here. They may think they understand it. But this is something that I think the president who has tracked and monitored Putin for a very long time. And if Mr. Boot wants to go back into his own line of work, then we're going to do what we have to do to hold him accountable. It was important as well that we make good our promise to Americans that are wrongfully detained overseas, that we's going to get him home.
