The History of the Polus

The Spartans retained the monarchical system the longest, though in a unique form. Their governmental apparatus had two hereditary, lifelong Vasylaeus, who ruled jointly. It is important to keep in mind that one of the things that was critical in understanding why the Polus developed as a political institution is Greek morality. The basic ideal of the Polus was that everyone, except for women and slaves of course, were entitled to the same protections under the law.
