Is There a Dynamo Similar to Earth?
The pressures and temperatures in the cores of super earths get to conditions that are way beyond what we can measure in the laboratory. So far we've mostly seen super earths that have the same composition as us, raising a debate about whether something that big would have a dynamo similar to ours. And so we really needed experimental data to sort of constrain what would be happening, just at a fundamental level,. To get a sense for what's going on in the core of a super earth. You used a lazer to put pressure on iron here on earth, a lot more than has been done before.
