The Origins of the Dude
In the 1800s, it was a focus on ostentatious, overly showy dress. In contemporary times, it sort of slacker rags kind of thing. The Yankee Doodle Dandie seems to be the origin of the dude. It's actually a reference to two British affected youth who had continental European heirs and acted like dandies. So they got the nickname macaroni's.
